A self-taught painter, Patrice LEVOIN, was born in 1948 at Vernon (Eure). From his early youth, his contact with Nature, given by his family walks around his native country, inclined him to painting. When he was eleven, he met in his college, an Art teacher who confirmed his bent for drawing, by sharing his love for Art. Progressively, overtaking his first stammerings, he controlled his technique in brushing and knives. Newly retired, he totally devoted himself to painting, focusing his work on countrysides and sea-views. Either from his translucent water-colour pictures or from his oil and acrylic warmly coloured paintings, he may be classified as a "figurative colourist". The Arcachon Basin, with its beaches, its dunes and sunsets; Auvergne, Provence, are his main sources of inspiration, enhancing the value of his warm and bright palette. From Provence, we take note, for one thing, of his fresh colours by painting lavender and poppies, under the "radiance of the sun"; from Bretagne, of his continual investigation of light in his nightly "marines". His art quickly progresses, revealing a growing maturity, given by the experience of life. He participated in several exhibitions, peculiarly in Aquitaine where he is in residence.
